August 19, 2026 - Olds, Alberta

Residents from all four Mountain View Seniors' Housing lodges gathered yesterday at the Rotary Athletic Park in Olds for the first MVSH Summer Social. Residents from Aspen Ridge Lodge, Chinook Winds Lodge, Mount View Lodge and Sundre Seniors Supportive Living travelled to Olds by charter bus and community van to spend the afternoon together with family members, volunteers and staff.

The event was created as a thank you to lodge residents for choosing MVSH as their home. It was an opportunity to bring neighbours together. For many residents, it was their first chance to meet people living in our other lodges. Throughout the afternoon, residents visited with one another, shared stories and enjoyed time with family and friends.

Guests were treated to a free BBQ lunch thanks to the support of several community partners and hot dog chef extraordinaire, Mountain View County Councillor (and MVSH Board Director) Greg Harris! Plains donated the use of their BBQ trailer, Westview Co-op donated the food and supplies, Freson Bros. in Sundre donated watermelons, and the Town of Olds provided the venue and helped ensure everything was in place for a successful event. Happy Designs Creations also joined us to provide face painting for attendees.

Residents also enjoyed a visit from Nugget, the therapy pony from Helping Alberta Wildies Society (HAWS), who quickly became one of the day's most popular guests. A horseshoe tournament added some friendly competition to the afternoon. Residents teamed up with family members and competed in A, B, C and D divisions, giving everyone a chance to take part.

While the food and activities were enjoyed by all, the highlight of the day was seeing residents from every MVSH community spending time together.

This was the first time in decades that MVSH brought residents from all four lodges together for a single celebration. Judging by the conversations, laughter and connections made throughout the afternoon, it won't be the last.

Thank you to everyone who attended and to the businesses, organizations and volunteers who helped make the day possible. We are already looking forward to next year's MVSH Summer Social.
