Sunshine & Success
at the 15th Annual MVSH Foundation Golf Classic!

On September 11, 2025, the Carstairs Community Golf Course was filled with sounds of chatter, laughter, the soft sound of practice putts, and the steady cracks from the driving range as golfers arrived for the 15th Annual MVSH Foundation Golf Classic. After last year’s rainout, the sunshine felt like a good omen for the day ahead. Teams checked in at registration, loaded up on 50/50 tickets and mulligans, and made sure their names were in for the door prize draws. A hot breakfast sandwich and a splash of Baileys in morning coffee gave everyone a boost before the real competition began. Some players headed straight for the putting green or driving range to warm up, determined to start their round on the right foot.
At 10:00 am, the shotgun start echoed across the course, and 31 teams set out on their 18-hole best-ball journey. The race was on for the trophy, the bragging rights, and the chance to be crowned this year’s champions after only playing 9 holes on this same course at last year’s monsoon! Along the way, the course was alive with activity.
The Eagle Challenge returned, bringing plenty of laughs and photo opportunities, even though no one managed to score the elusive eagle. Looker Office Furniture and Global Furniture Group were stationed on the course, keeping golfers refreshed with cold drinks and entertained with contests, while Westview Co-op handed out snacks and stopped to chat with players as they passed by. CIP Office Technology brought back their exciting challenge, daring golfers to hit the target for the chance to win a printer.

One of the highlights of the day was the putting challenge, hosted once again by Mayor Richard Warnock alongside MVSHF volunteer Danielle Dick. The prize table overflowed with wine and liquor donated by the MVSH Foundation, Cedars Pub, and Original T’s Restaurant in Sundre, while golfers lined up to take their shot. Skill mattered, but luck often made the difference, and cheers erupted as putters hit their winning shots and walked away with some premium wine and liquor!

Dinner itself was a highlight, with the Ironwood Restaurant serving perfectly grilled steak to a hungry crowd. Between bites, golfers kept an eye on the silent auction as bids were placed and winners were announced. Then came the tournament prizes, which blended skill, humour, and team spirit. Players were recognized for challenges like “Ball in Sand” and “Ball in Water,” with Tommy Bahama beach chairs proving a fitting prize. The “Most Honest Team” earned themselves the ever-popular reward of toilet paper, while the Team Spirit Award went to the brightest (pink and glittery) team that brought extra energy and fun to the day. Finally, all eyes turned to the championship. In a twist that added to the excitement, last year’s winners officially handed the trophy over to a new champion. The Acera Insurance team claimed first place with an impressive score of -16 and proudly held the trophy for their champion photo. In a generous gesture, they donated their prize—sleek Oakley sunglasses with special golf lenses—back to the Foundation to support next year’s event. Last year’s champions didn’t go home empty-handed, finishing as strong runners-up and collecting their prizes with a smile.

The day closed with the 50/50 draw, where one lucky Arcadis team member walked away with just over $1,000. As the sun dipped behind the trees and the tournament tent began to empty, there was a shared sense of pride in what had been accomplished. It was a day of golf, laughter, and connection, but also of impact—every ticket sold, every sponsor’s booth, and every bid at the silent auction supported the work of the MVSH Foundation and the seniors it serves.
When the final scores were tallied, golfers, sponsors, and volunteers gathered in the tournament tent for the evening program. Among the crowd were four special guests, Vince and Marlene from Chinook Winds Lodge in Carstairs and Rick and Eric from Aspen Ridge Lodge in Didsbury, who joined in the celebration. The silent auction table was packed with incredible donated items, sparking competitive bidding as items closed at random throughout dinner. This year marked an important milestone, as the Foundation celebrated 15 years of the Golf Classic. Long-time supporters Shunda Construction and Consulting, Smart Contracting Services (MVSH Maintenance), Arcadis, and Reynolds Mirth Richards & Farmer LLP were recognized for their unwavering commitment since the very first tournament, 15 years ago.
