On a beautiful afternoon at Aspen Ridge Lodge, the energy was palpable! Music filled the room, residents from all four lodge sites within Mountain View County gathered with anticipation, and our Lodge Staff teams prepared for their grand entrance.

The 2026 Mountain View Seniors’ Housing (MVSH) Lodge Olympics were officially underway! From the moment it began, this year’s Lodge Olympics was more than a competition; it was a celebration of connection, creativity, and community across Mountain View Seniors’ Housing.

A Grand Kickoff

The afternoon opened with lively introductions from our emcees, Stacey Stilling (MVSH CAO) and Susan Read (MVSH Director of Operations), who kept the energy high and the crowd engaged from start to finish.

Each lodge made an unforgettable entrance, complete with theme songs and enthusiastic cheering sections. One standout moment that had everyone smiling was the Sundre team’s imaginative Snow White and the Seven Dwarves costumes, a true crowd-pleaser that set the tone for a fun-filled afternoon and kept everyone laughing.

Our cherished residents filled the room with cheers, clapping and waving handmade signs, fully embracing their role as judges, supporters, and the heart of the event.

Activity Coordinators Spirit Challenge

The MVSH Spirit Award was the challenge set forth for each Lodge facility's Activity Coordinator. Their goal was to capture what the day was truly about: participation, joy, and community pride, all while showcasing their Lodge residents’ spirit.

And the winners are…

  1. Gold: Mount View Lodge, for their loud, energetic cheering section and impressive noisemakers

  2. Silver: Sundre Supportive Living, for their creative themed costumes

  3. Bronze: Chinook Winds Lodge, for spirited signs and enthusiastic support

Housekeeping Challenge Highlights

Towel Folding Relay

Precision met creativity as competitors raced to fold nine towels uniformly and design one standout decorative piece for the judges to inspect. Each team moved with speed while they neatly folded and beautifully crafted their towels. Residents watched closely, thoughtfully judging each decorative towel and appreciating both speed and presentation in this deceptively tricky challenge.

And the winners are…

2.      Silver: Robin, Chinook Winds Lodge in Carstairs

3.      Bronze: Kim, Sundre Supportive Living

Vacuum Sprint

Speed, strategy, and attention to detail were on full display as competitors tackled a breadcrumb-filled course. With time penalties if crumbs were left behind, the teams were diligent to vacuum with accuracy and speed. The crowd reacted to every close finish.

A fast-paced test of precision and organization, competitors raced to set, clear, and sanitize a four-person table, which was scored on both time and presentation. Our resident judges inspected carefully to ensure nothing was out of place.

Dessert Challenge - Brownies

One of the most anticipated events of the afternoon brought resident judges together for a blind taste test. After the event, ALL the residents enjoyed the fruits of the baker's labour while getting to sample the delicious desserts for themselves.

2.      Silver: Chinook Winds Lodge, prepared by Judy Cawley

3.      Bronze: Mount View Lodge, prepared by Lynsey Bird

More Than Medals

While medals were awarded and winners celebrated, the true success of the 2nd Annual MVSH Lodge Olympics was found in the shared laughter, teamwork, and the pride felt across every lodge. While our incredible MVSH staff were the competitors, our residents were at the center of it all, cheering, judging, celebrating, and creating moments that will be remembered long after the final whistle. The afternoon wrapped up with smiles, meaningful memories to share back at their Lodge sites, and a strong sense of community that we strive to have at MVSH.

Events like the Lodge Olympics remind us that meaningful engagement, creativity, and joy are at the heart of vibrant senior living communities, whether it’s our employees or residents. Thank you to every staff member, resident and organizers who brought their energy, spirit, and enthusiasm to the day.

See you at next year’s games!
