May 15, 2025 – Chinook Winds Lodge, Carstairs, AB

AN AFTERNOON OF FUN, FOOD, AND FRIENDLY COMPETITION

On May 15, 2025, nearly the entire Chinook Winds Lodge community gathered to witness an exciting event in MVSH history—the inaugural Lodge Olympics. Teams from all four MVSH lodges came together in a friendly but spirited competition designed to celebrate teamwork, creativity, and the everyday excellence of our staff.

Hosted at Chinook Winds Lodge in Carstairs, the event featured staff from Mount View Lodge, Aspen Ridge Lodge, Chinook Winds Lodge, and Sundre Seniors Supportive Living Facility. Events were divided into three categories—Housekeeping, Dietary, and Activities—each designed to showcase the unique skills of our amazing team members. The day’s performances were evaluated by a panel of esteemed resident judges: Marlene, Vince, Verne, and Donna.

HOUSEKEEPING DIVISION: SPEED AND PRECISION ON DISPLAY

Two fast-paced challenges tested the speed and skill of our housekeeping teams: the Bed-Making Challenge and the Mop Race.

DIETARY DIVISION: KITCHEN CREATIVITY AND CULINARY SKILLS

Our Dietary teams competed in two recipe-based challenges: creating a dill pickle pasta salad for the cooks and a carrot cake for the bakers.

In a delicious twist, the winning recipes will be added to the regular meal rotation across all MVSH lodges.

ACTIVITIES DIVISION: INNOVATION FOR RESIDENT ENGAGEMENT

The Activities team members were tasked with designing and presenting a brand-new recreation program idea. After a thoughtful presentation from each lodge, the judges declared a four-way tie.

All four lodges will have their programs implemented, and their names will be added to the Activities Champion Plaque, which will be displayed at the MVSH Head Office for the year.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS AND PRIZES

Each participant was entered into a draw for a $100 Amazon gift card. Congratulations to Bill from Mount View Lodge, who walked away with the prize!

All category winners will receive a customized MVSH-branded scrub top or t-shirt as a keepsake for their achievement. Champion plaques will be displayed at the winning lodges until next year’s competition.

A CELEBRATION OF STAFF AND OUR LODGE COMMUNITIES

The first-ever MVSH Lodge Olympics was more than just a competition—it was a fun way to bring everyone together, build connections across lodges, and shine a light on the hard work our staff put in every day.

Residents were part of it from start to finish—judging, cheering, and even taste-testing. One resident commented, “It’s neat to see the housekeepers in action when they make the beds. There is a lot more to it.” Another said, “I enjoyed tasting all the different salads. Each kitchen is different, and you could taste the difference.”

It was a great mix of teamwork, friendly rivalry, and a whole lot of laughs.

Plans are already in motion for next year—see you in 2026, where the competition will be even tougher!
