Didsbury – November 13, 2025
At Aspen Ridge Lodge, the kitchen is often where quiet dedication meets delicious results—and no one exemplifies that better than Sarah Hoffman, our 2024 Lodge Excellence Award recipient. Sarah was busy preparing trays of date squares, carefully spreading the filling over the crust while chatting about her work, her family, and what it means to care for residents. As the oven warmed, the sweet aroma slowly filled the kitchen, a perfect companion to the story of someone who quietly makes life better for those around her.
A Didsbury local, Sarah has been part of the MVSH family for nearly four years. She began on evening shifts in the kitchen but eventually took the Night Baker position, a role that suited her family life and all its scheduling needs. With two school-aged children, including one with Cerebral Palsy, Sarah appreciates being present during the day for appointments, school routines, and life’s everyday moments. Her daughter was preparing to start school the very next day, and Sarah admitted with a smile that she wasn’t sure who was more excited, her or her daughter!
Sarah’s dedication to the Lodge extends beyond her baking. She has yet to attend a Staff Appreciation event, often covering shifts so others can enjoy them, but her impact is felt every day. Even at night, she notices the little moments: a resident wandering past the kitchen window, an opportunity to share a warm treat, a chance to bring a smile. “This is their home,” Sarah says. “I hope I can make them happy and that they enjoy what I’ve baked.”
Her journey to the Night Baker role wasn’t immediate. Sarah had noticed the posting for the Night Baker line come around twice before jumping in to apply for it, unsure she could manage baking for sixty people at once. After helping as the Casual Night Baker, she embraced the opportunity. Baking has always been something she’s enjoyed, and the quiet night shift allows her a rare moment of focus and calm in a busy life.
And yes, quality control is serious business. “You have to sample the baking… and then sample it the next day too,” she laughs. “It has to sit overnight in the fridge, so you want to make sure it stays fresh!”
Her teammates describe her as patient, kind, and thoughtful—a true team player who takes her time to create treats residents love. Sarah’s steady dedication, care for residents, and genuine heart make her an inspiration and a perfect recipient of the Lodge Excellence Award.
Sarah, thank you for the care, skill, and warmth you bring to Aspen Ridge Lodge. Every tray you bake, every smile you inspire, is a reminder of the difference one dedicated person can make.
