Celebrating Logan McGaffin!

At Mountain View Seniors’ Housing (MVSH), we’re fortunate to work alongside team members who truly embody our values! For the 2023 year, the Aspen Ridge Lodge Excellence Award was presented to Logan McGaffin—a remarkable individual whose caring nature, authenticity, and radiant energy leave a lasting impression on everyone he meets.

A Heart as Big as His Smile

Logan is an enthusiastic, genuine, and compassionate presence at Aspen Ridge Lodge. His warmth and selflessness is a true inspiration. A recent example of Logan’s big-hearted nature is his decision to cut his long hair—grown past his shoulders—to donate it in honour of his mother, a cancer survivor. This heartfelt gesture beautifully reflects Logan’s character—a person who radiates love and care in all he does.

Finding His Place at MVSH

Logan began his journey with MVSH on Halloween of 2023 after attending a job fair at the Didsbury Train Station. Growing up as an only child in Linden before moving to Didsbury, Logan faced challenges as a non-binary individual in a small community. Despite these experiences, he brings a sense of authenticity and positivity to his work, creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all.

When asked how he’d prefer to be addressed, Logan shared, “LITERALLY, I don’t care. Half the residents call me a woman, but I see myself as both. I don’t correct them.” This open-minded perspective highlights Logan’s authentic and inclusive nature, fostering connections and creating a sense of ease for everyone around him.

His peers describe him as “incredibly understanding, calm, and approachable,” qualities that make him so valuable to the Aspen Ridge Lodge team.

A Natural Fit for Dietary Arts

From day one, Logan’s love for cooking and baking made the dietary department the perfect fit. While he’s considered pursuing a culinary program at SAIT, Logan is focused on his role with MVSH and supporting his family right now. His passion for his work is evident in everything he does, from preparing meals to baking special treats for residents and colleagues. Logan says, “I make sure I treat every single person in this building with so much respect. I say gorgeous, beautiful, to everybody here every single day. I know what it feels like to be sad and hurt, and I don’t want anybody else to feel like that.”

Brightening Lives Every Day

Logan’s unwavering kindness and respect leave a lasting impact on residents and staff. His bond with Fern, a resident at Aspen Ridge Lodge, is particularly special. “I feel like I’m a part of her, like one of her grandchildren, and that’s really meaningful,” Logan shares. His co-workers see this care and connection daily, saying, “Logan is a pure joy to work with. His interactions with the residents are always positive, and they look forward to seeing him. He truly cares for their comfort and deserves recognition for his hard work and compassion.”

A Future Filled with Dreams

When he’s not in the kitchen or lifting spirits at Aspen Ridge Lodge, Logan channels his creativity into Drag. As @Taylor_Dlish on Instagram, he showcases his artistry in cosmetics and apparel. One day, Logan dreams of limitless combinations such as his culinary talent and flair for performance by opening a brunch spot with a burlesque-inspired theme. “I wouldn’t be in it for the business of money, once money is involved it becomes soulless, I just want to make it for the art.” He says.

A Valued Member of the MVSH Family

Logan’s presence at Aspen Ridge Lodge is transformative. His favorite part about working with MVSH? “Putting a smile on everyone’s face and being myself. I feel like every single thing I do here matters,” Logan says. “I don’t know where else I’d get this same type of working environment.”
