At Mountain View Seniors’ Housing, we take great pride in recognizing the dedication and hard work of our team members. The Lodge Excellence Award celebrates employees who go above and beyond to create a warm, welcoming, and supportive environment for residents and colleagues alike. We are proud to highlight Lisa Hodgins, a valued member of the Dietary and Housekeeping team at Chinook Winds Lodge in Carstairs.

Finding Joy in Small-Town Living

Lisa has been part of the MVSH family for nearly two years, bringing an incredible work ethic, a positive attitude, and a wealth of life experience. Before joining us, she worked in the fashion industry and later spent 6.5 years driving a truck alongside her husband. She also took a year to care for her grandkids while her daughter returned to work. Originally from Mississauga, Ontario, Lisa moved to Carstairs 2.5 years ago when her son-in-law’s job transfer brought their family out west. Wanting to stay close to their grandkids and family, Lisa and her husband embraced the move, even though it meant transitioning from the big city to small-town Carstairs. While Lisa initially had reservations and preferred to look in Airdrie, her husband fell in love with a particular house—and in the end, Lisa fell in love with the small-town feel. Now, she enjoys the sense of community, often walking her dog at the local off-leash park where she knows just about everyone. “I’ve really found a home here,” she says.

Embracing the Night Shift

Starting in day shifts, Lisa enjoyed interacting with residents and being part of their daily routines. When an opportunity arose to work nights, she decided to give it a try—and it turns out, she prefers it! “You adjust yourself,” Lisa says. “You kind of forget it’s nighttime.” Even though her schedule has changed, she still enjoys the special moments she shares with residents, especially those who struggle with sleep, and come out for a quiet walk or chat in the halls.

A Teammate Who Goes the Extra Mile

Lisa’s dedication and positivity do not go unnoticed. Her colleagues describe her as someone who gives 110% to everything she does, never gives up, and is always willing to step in and help where needed. One team member shared, “Lisa is always smiling and laughing no matter how tired. She picks up shifts to help her co-workers and goes above and beyond the nightly tasks. I am truly proud to have her as part of my team.”

A Surprise Recognition

When Lisa found out she had won the Lodge Excellence Award, she was shocked. Scheduled to work the night of the Staff Appreciation event, her colleagues encouraged her to swap her shift so she could attend. She had no idea she would be receiving an award! “It feels fantastic.” Lisa shared when asked how it felt to be nominated by her colleagues. “It’s a great bunch of ladies here. They welcomed me with open arms, and I really appreciate it.”

Lisa embodies the spirit of excellence, teamwork, and dedication that we strive for at MVSH. Her kindness, adaptability, and unwavering commitment to her work and her team make her a deserving recipient of this award.
