Sundre, Alberta – March 5, 2025

The halls were decked with photos from last year’s competition, the sheets were set, and the excitement was undeniable at the Sundre Seniors’ Supportive Living Facility today (Wednesday, March 5, 2025) for the 2nd Annual The Ice is Right Floor Curling Bonspiel!

By 10:00 am, the lodge was alive with anticipation as 10 two-person teams prepared to take to the floor for a day of thrilling competition. The traditional knock-out bonspiel format kept players on their toes throughout the morning, with each match bringing cheers, close calls, and impressive displays of skill.

At lunchtime, competitors and spectators alike took a well-earned break to enjoy a tasty burger and hot dog BBQ—fueling up for the big afternoon matches ahead. As the afternoon rolled in, so did the intensity! The semi-finals were a tight match, leading up to an electrifying final showdown.

The finals were a nail-biter, with both teams tying it up after each end and pushing the match to an extra-end tiebreaker. The tension was high as each stone was thrown with precision and strategy. In the end, it was Joe and Barb who emerged victorious for the second year in a row, proving to be reigning champions of The Ice is Right! Neil and Ken secured second place, while Bruce and Bob claimed third. A huge congratulations to all the teams who participated—your sportsmanship and enthusiasm made the event a spectacular success!

The lodge was buzzing with energy all day long, thanks to the players, the crowd of supporters, and the staff. A huge thank you to everyone who came out to cheer, play, and enjoy the fun. We can’t wait to see what next year’s bonspiel brings—will Joe and Barb make it a three-peat? Only time will tell!

Until then, keep practicing and keep the curling spirit alive! 🥌✨
